In complete contrast to our card counting movies post, the not so savvy way to play blackjack! Still, this clip from hit comedy Austin Powers should bring a smile to your face even after a difficult day at the tables.

The more crafty viewers will have noticed the error in the clip, and I’m not talking about anything to do with strategy! Number 2 hits before Austin is dealt his second card, while all players should receive their two cards before being allowed to play. While this clip makes me laugh-out-loud every time, the sad thing is that most blackjack players do like to live dangerously, and that’s without the aid of an x-ray eye patch. While an x-ray eye patch may have its clear advantages in the casino, it wouldn’t be as useful online. But we online players do have our own advantages. We can check that we are playing the best variant, and refer to strategy tables while playing, which will help to maximise our returns. I’m not sure that many land based blackjack players would carry charts with them to check while at the tables!

It takes time to memorise basic strategy (let alone each strategy for different variants), which is why online blackjack is such a good way to learn. There is no need to play for money, and with each hand, you’ll be improving your game. Many people just don’t have the willpower, but the clip above should motivate us all. While we can all enjoy a good laugh thanks to Austin Powers, let’s make sure that the casino isn’t laughing at us.
